A powerful storm system is expected to move into the Great Lakes region beginning tomorrow afternoon and evening. Light to moderate snow will overspread the state from west to east. Snowfall is expected to begin around 7:00 PM across western lower and no later than 10:00 PM across eastern sections, including Metro Detroit.

Snow Moving into Michigan
Snowfall accumulations of 1-2″ can be expected along the Indiana/Michigan/Ohio border north to the I-94 corridor. North of I-94 to the I-69 corridor 2-5″ of snowfall is anticipated. Interstate 69 north into the thumb region, 3-6″ of snow is forecasted. The heaviest snowfall is expected to be north of US-10. Snowfall amounts of 6-8″ can be expected. Locally higher amounts are possible.
All modes of precipitation look probable as some warmer air begins to usher in from the south. Sleet and freezing rain will begin to mix in overnight, from the south to the north. There is currently some concern for ice accretion, however, trends will need to be monitored in later forecasts. The greatest chance of ice accretion appears to be along Interstate 94. Ice accretions to one tenth of an inch is expected in these areas. However, an isolated location may see up to two tenths of an inch of ice.

Ice Accretion for Lower Michigan
Hazardous road conditions will be present over the majority of the state Tuesday morning. Areas, including but not limited to, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Detroit could be heavily impacted. The Monday evening, especially late, and Tuesday morning commute will be most significantly impacted. The Tuesday evening commute from US-10 south should be in fairly good shape with areas further north still getting snow. Some issues seem possible for the Wednesday morning commute as temperatures are expected to drop back below freezing Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
School closures and delays also look possible due to the wintry mess expected to impact Michigan.
